I was browsing through my newsfeed on Facebook when I saw a news article about S Club 7 getting back together. One youtube link led to another and another and another and thus began tonight's bender as I stalked the music that defined my childhood. I remember making my dad buy me a cassette tape of S Club 7 and Britney Spears. My god, how I listened to those tapes all day everyday. We used to travel weekly between my hometown and the place where we lived at the time (where my parents worked). It was a four-hour drive and I'm pretty sure even my dad and brother knew all the lyrics to those songs because it's all I wanted to listen to over and over.

I didn't realize before just how good it feels to actually chill and listen to the music of the early 2000s. All the songs these days seem so depressing next to songs like Wannabe (Spice Girls) and Bring It All Back (S Club 7). They just don't make music like these anymore. You don't see dance moves like those from Asereje and S Club Party nowadays. And let me just say, BACKSTREET BOYS was the last great boy band. Those 1D dudes ain't got nothin on my BSB

Last night, my brother and I went to see WICKED at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. I loved every single second of it! No joke!

We had box seats and it was worth it for the price we paid.

I love the music, the costumes, the stage.  EVERYTHING. Too bad no pictures were allowed, otherwise, I'd be showing, rather than telling, you, guys, how awesome it was. 

I've been a fan of the musical for years and I adore the songs, however I haven't seen it on stage yet. So when I heard that the were going to have a run of the musical here, I jumped on the chance to get my tickets faster than you can say Wicked.

A few tears, a whole lot of laughs, and several standing ovations... WICKED was wickedly cool! I think I've reached my word quota for the word Wicked. Let's throw in a little more just for good measure ;-)

After sooooooo long, I was able to go back home last weekend. But that's not the point of this post. Every time I go somewhere, I always make sure that I have my music with me. I have so many songs on my computer that I really have to try and handpick the songs that would go on my phone/iPod. The 16GB I have is NOT nearly enough, let me tell you.

So, anyway, last night in the car, a song started playing through my earbuds. I had the album since May and I've been listening to the songs absently for a few months now. Well, don't you find it funny how we tend to get overly contemplative while inside a moving vehicle. It happens to me every time! A song might not mean much to me before but the moment it starts playing while I lean my head on the window and as I look at the scenery pass me by, well, I don't know why songs suddenly take new meaning!

It happened again last night. As we drove through the highway towards the city, the songs playing made me think about stuff. If you recognize the lyrics, then you're awesome. :)

Hearing those words got me thinking. 

Falling in love is complicated. Whoever said it was easy needs to be bitch-slapped. Love is one huge maze that I have no idea how to navigate. The few times I ventured into it, I got lost. I realized that I've always had this tendency to make everybody else happy. I think it is a result of my insecurities about myself. I fear being left alone and that train of thought has led me into thinking that if I try to please everybody around me, they won't ever find a reason to leave. In doing so, I lose myself in the process. This song reminded me that staying true yourself is the best way to go. Being loved or otherwise by other people does not determine who we are. The choices we make and the things that matter to us do.

Good thing I have money saved up. I had no idea why I've been saving my allowance for the last couple of weeks. Now, I know why.
